Count the units against your plan. A missing unit makes a quote look cheaper than it is. Watch for split units. Two narrower units can replace one wide unit, and that changes the price, so check the widths match the plan. ## Doors, drawer fronts and hinges The door range and colour should be named on the quote, because it moves the price more than anything else. At DIY Kitchens, the same 11 cabinets cost from £1,506 (Carrera) to £3,268 (Helmsley), a gap of £1,762. Check what hinges you are getting. Wickes lists soft close as an extra. Howdens has metal hinges with soft close available, and DIY Kitchens uses Blum hinges with soft close included. ## Are legs, plinth and end panels included? Legs are often a separate line, so check whether your quote lists them or says they come with the units. Kuote's reference totals include legs, fixings and hinges where a shop sells them separately. Plinth, cornice and end panels are finishing parts that are easy to leave off. Kuote's totals leave them out and Kuote doesn't price them, so ask your supplier to list them with lengths and a price. ## Worktops, appliances, sink, tap and handles These are usually separate lines, and each can be a large part of the bill. Ask for the worktop material, lengths and any joints or edging. For appliances, sink and tap, ask for the exact model so you can compare prices elsewhere. Handles are easy to forget, and a handleless range may still need trims or rails. Check the quote says how many handles you are getting. ## Is VAT included in a kitchen quote? Not always, so check. Trade quotes are often shown without VAT, and VAT is 20% on top.
